As a father of two young children, I was eager to teach them Arabic: my dream was to have a perfectly Arabic-speaking family.

On the strength of this experience, I extended my teaching to the Alfitra school that I founded in Tangier. Then, in order to make immersion learning available to all learners around the world, I launched Arabic Immersion, an online programme with 3,500 learners, children and adults.

How do you do it?

Arabic Immersion is designed to promote authentic and natural Arabic language teaching.
It is the method of Arabic language acquisition through immersion and practice of the famous Palestinian linguist Professor Abdellah Dannan, who was awarded the prize for the best method of teaching Arabic in schools in 2015.
This method is based on a communicative approach to Arabic based on listening and interaction.
This method is at the service of those who work for the Arabic language: schools, training centres, associations, Arabic teachers, but also families and individuals who are interested in the Arabic language.
A linguist, novelist and poet, Professor Abdellah Dannan has devoted more than sixty years of his life to education as a professor, teacher and university lecturer.
He has published more than sixty articles and books on teaching Arabic to children. In 2015, he was awarded the prize for the best method of teaching Arabic in schools at the international symposium in Dubai.

What does the pedagogical content of the programme look like?
Day 1: Lecture on the Dannan method and deba
Safia, the trainer, gives a lecture to explain in detail what the Dannan method is, and then learners are invited to express their views and discuss the subject.
Day 2: Description of pictures with noun phrases (prepared)
This exercise is prepared at home. Learners have to describe pictures with noun phrases. Then Safia adds elements that vary the harakats, and the learners have to take them into account. This exercise helps to improve grammar in particular.
Day 3: Description of pictures with verbal sentences
This exercise, unprepared, focuses on perfecting conjugation.
Days 4: Storytelling
t home, and tells it the next day, then another learner has to tell what he/she has understood from the story, always respecting the vocalisation.
Day 5: Reading and vocalisation of a story
This exercise is not prepared. The learner is given an unvocalized story and has to read it while pronouncing all the harakats.
Days 6: Summarising a cartoon
Learners watch a cartoon and have to tell what happened, while respecting the vocalisation.
Days 7: Debating conflicting ideas
In pairs, learners have to defend a point of view in a debate of conflicting ideas. For example, of the drought or the flood, which is worse?
Day 8: Short lecture by each learner
Each learner has to present (without reading) for 5-10min a topic prepared at home (e.g. their autobiography, the customs of their town/country, current affairs, tell a story that happened to them, etc.) always using vocalisation.
